Frequently Asked Questions

Design & Collection

What designs are available?

Five mats, each with two coordinated sides: Ursus/Linea, Flora/Sand, Natura/Terra, Terrazzo/Konfetti, Azur/Citrus. One calmer side, one livelier — simply flip it over if you fancy a change.

Will there be new designs?

Yes. We are continuing to develop the collection.

Product & Usage

At what age can my baby use the mat?

From day one. Soft enough for those first tummy time moments, big enough for a Lego afternoon with a five-year-old.

Do I really need such a big mat?

Most families don't regret the size. 200 x 140 cm offers enough space for you to fit on it too. Because you'll spend more time on the floor than you currently think.

Does the mat make noise when you walk on it?

No. The sticky, squeaky sound of some mats is typical for PU materials. Our PVC mat doesn't do that.

Are the mats non-slip?

Yes. The embossed sides hold the mat firmly in place on wood, tile, laminate, and most other floors.

What types of floors can I use the mat on?

On most — wood, tile, laminate, carpet. The surface should be clean and dry.

Can I use the mat outside too?

Occasionally, yes, on the balcony or terrace. Afterwards, wipe it dry and store it indoors. It is not designed for continuous outdoor use.

Price & Quality

Why does a Baby Muzzi mat cost so much more than other playmats?

Because this mat is the opposite of a disposable product.

1.3 cm thick PVC foam — that's almost twice as thick as most play mats on the market. This padding comes from a manufacturer who has been exclusively producing play mats for over 20 years and has continuously developed their material during this time. This is no random product.

In addition, it offers what makes a good mat in everyday life: a surface that is truly wipeable. No seams, no puzzle pieces, no folding crease. A single, continuous surface — unroll, done. CE certified, SGS tested, phthalate-free.

Baby Muzzi is not a mass importer. We produce in smaller quantities, control every step — and stand by our name.

Materials & Safety

What is the mat made of?

Made from high-quality PVC foam. 1.3 cm thick, shock-absorbing, water-repellent, dimensionally stable. The design is applied using heat transfer film — not a sticker, no layer that peels off.

Is PVC safe for my child?

Yes – if it is certified. Limits for children’s products are more than ten times stricter than for normal consumer goods. Baby Muzzi mats are phthalate-free, BPA-free, CE-certified and independently tested by SGS according to EN 71-1, EN 71-2 and EN 71-3.

Where are the mats manufactured?

In South Korea, from our manufacturer specializing in children's play mats, with CE certification according to EU Toy Safety Directive 2009/48/EC.

Care & Cleaning

How do I clean the mat in everyday use?

Damp cloth – done. Even dried coffee, porridge, and most everyday stains can be easily wiped away.

What do I do about stubborn stains?

Stains happen — especially with little ones around. Most of them come out.

Start with a damp cloth and a little washing-up liquid. If that's not enough: mix 3 parts bicarbonate of soda with 1 part water into a paste, apply to the stain, leave for a few hours, then wipe away. A little clear vinegar can help too.

Please avoid harsh stain removers or bleach — they can damage the surface. And don't scrub.

An underrated tip: sunshine. Roll the mat out on a bright day — just like with baby clothes, sunlight often works better than any cleaner.

Can I vacuum the mat?

Yes, also using robot vacuum cleaners. Do not set the suction level to maximum - if the suction is too strong, the mat may lift.

May I use a steam cleaner?

No. The heat can permanently deform the material.

Can heavy furniture stand on the mat?

Light play equipment is not a problem. Very heavy furniture left permanently on the mat can compress the padding over time.

Does the color change over time?

Prolonged direct sunlight can cause slight yellowing—this is a natural material process. Occasionally change the position; do not leave permanently in direct sunlight.

Scent

The mat smells after unpacking. Is that normal?

Yes — and it's harmless. After production, PVC has a characteristic smell, similar to the smell of a new car or a new leather sofa. We deliberately avoid chemical treatments to suppress the odor to ensure the highest level of safety for your child. The mat is CE-certified and tested for harmful substances by SGS.

For most, the smell completely dissipates within a few days.

What can I do to make the smell go away faster?

Wipe with a damp cloth and air out in a well-ventilated area—a few hours on the balcony are usually sufficient. If you lightly press both sides or stand on it briefly, the air cells will be activated and the smell will dissipate faster.
